Game World

Retro video game store on Bloomington's west 3rd Street with a serious Pokemon sideline — booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, and buy-sell-trade counters.

Game World built its name on retro video games — tested hardware, resurfaced discs, and shelves of childhood favorites — but the west 3rd Street store has grown into one of the easier places to buy Pokemon cards in Bloomington. Current sets rotate through regularly, from booster packs to Elite Trainer Boxes, stocked alongside the consoles and cartridges that draw the store's core crowd.

The buy-sell-trade model applies to cards the same way it does to games. Walk in with a stack of Pokemon cards or an old console, walk out with store credit toward sealed product — a loop that makes Game World a practical first stop for collectors clearing space or funding new pulls. Everything on the used side gets inspected before resale, a habit carried over from the store's game-restoration operation, where a professional resurfacing machine brings scratched discs back to life.

Expect a video game store's rhythm rather than a hobby shop's: no tournament tables or league nights, but longer retail hours than most dedicated card stores in town — 10AM to 7PM Monday through Thursday, 10AM to 8PM Friday and Saturday, and noon to 7PM Sunday. That Saturday evening availability is handy when the dedicated card shops in Bloomington have already wound down their retail floors for event night.

The store sits at 3289 W 3rd St on the west-side retail strip, with a second location across town on College Mall Road. Reviews run mixed on pricing — it's a resale business, so haggle-checking values before trading is smart — but the staff know their inventory, and for grab-and-go sealed Pokemon on flexible hours, it fills a real niche in the Bloomington card scene.
