Heavy Meta Gaming sells Pokemon singles and sealed product in Louisville's Portland neighborhood, tucked inside a multi-shop creative space open Thursday to Sunday.
Heavy Meta Gaming sits on Portland Avenue in West Louisville, in a building shared with an assortment of other small businesses. That setup gives a card run here a different feel from a strip-mall hobby store: you can browse trading cards, then wander next door for books, art or coffee. The shop keeps a short weekly schedule, opening in the afternoon Thursday through Sunday and staying open until 11PM each of those nights.
Pokemon is the draw. Collectors regularly point to the depth of the Pokemon card collection, and the shelves are split between binders of singles and sealed product for people who would rather rip packs themselves. If you are hunting a specific card for a deck or a collection page, this is a solid Louisville card shop to start with, and the staff will dig through binders with you instead of pointing you at a case.
Magic: The Gathering and other collectible card games round out the stock, along with the sleeves, deck boxes and binders you need to protect what you pull. Because the hours skew late, it works well for after-work visits and weekend nights when many other local stores have already closed.
Before heading over, check the shop's social pages for current event schedules and stock updates, since a small independent store changes inventory quickly. Parking and access are straightforward on Portland Avenue, and the neighboring shops make it an easy stop to combine with a bigger afternoon out in the neighborhood.
