Midtown Detroit's pop-culture cornerstone — comics, board games, and a steady Pokemon and MTG wall housed in the historic Albert Kahn building.
Vault of Midnight's Detroit location anchors the ground floor of the Albert Kahn building on East Grand Boulevard, a few minutes from the Detroit Institute of Arts. The shop opened in 2017 as the third Vault location (after Ann Arbor in 1996 and Grand Rapids) and quickly became one of the most reliable Midtown stops for comic readers and TCG players alike.
The trading card section sits to the right as you walk in. Pokemon sealed product — Elite Trainer Boxes, the current set's booster boxes, and a small binder of singles — gets the most shelf space, with Magic: The Gathering decks, sleeves, and accessories filling the rest. This isn't a singles-deep store the way a dedicated card shop Detroit collectors might want for chasing one specific Charizard, but for fresh sealed and a fair price on supplies it's a strong pick.
The physical space deserves its own mention. High ceilings, exposed brick, a dedicated event corner for in-store signings, and a manga wall that runs the length of the shop. The Vault crew runs frequent Free Comic Book Day blowouts and the occasional Pokemon Pre-Release on weekends — check Instagram for the current schedule.
Weekend hours run late (11AM-10PM Fri-Sat), making it one of the few Detroit comic-and-TCG shops you can hit after dinner. Free parking in the surrounding lot.
