South Durham storefront built out of a home-based card operation, now stocking Pokemon singles, One Piece sealed, and modern sports rookies.

Elite Cardboard Gaming started in 2023 as one guy moving cards out of his house. Three years later it occupies Suite 105 of a Fayetteville Road retail strip in south Durham, a few minutes from Southpoint, with display cases along the front counter and open table space toward the back where the community actually shows up.

The inventory splits cleanly. Pokemon singles fill binders and cases up front, with sealed Elite Trainer Boxes and booster product stacked behind the register. Magic: The Gathering and One Piece hold their own sections, and the sports side leans modern — Panini and Topps rookie cards, current-year sealed, and a rotating case of higher-end pulls. Hours are worth planning around. The shop is dark on Mondays and runs 11am to 7pm Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday. Friday is the outlier: doors open at 1pm and stay open until 10pm, which is when trade nights and late play sessions fill the tables. Sunday runs noon to 7pm and tends to be the quietest window if you want the owner's attention for a buy or a trade evaluation.

The shop runs an active Discord where restocks, event calls, and trade posts get announced before they hit social media — worth joining before your first visit. Parking is free in the strip lot and the storefront is ground-level, so hauling in a longbox or two for evaluation is straightforward.

For a Durham card shop this young, the draw is less about deep vintage and more about a growing, low-pressure room where new collectors get walked through their first breaks and regulars trade across the counter.
