Coffee, card sleeves and a 1AM Friday close — Knight Owl is Abilene's deliberately Deaf-friendly game cafe, running Pokemon, Lorcana and Yu-Gi-Oh nights.
Knight Owl Game Cafe describes its own mission as giving Abilene's gaming community a safe place to learn and grow, "all with a warm cup of coffee and fresh pack of card sleeves." That combination — an actual cafe menu attached to an actual tournament floor — is what separates it from every other option in town. The shop recently moved to 226 Kirkwood Street, which is now the correct address regardless of what older listings say.
Owner Randall gets named in nearly every review, and the room he has built is unusually deliberate about accessibility. Reviewers specifically call out the space and lighting as Deaf-friendly, which is not language that shows up in game store reviews by accident. It is also explicitly kid-friendly, and the shelves carry the board games most people played growing up alongside current TCG product.
Events cover Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Lorcana and Magic, and the shop is a listed Wizards Play Network store. The D&D program runs two ways: in-house campaigns you can join, and table rental if you want to bring your own group and just need a room. Dice, sleeves and accessories fill out the retail side. The hours are the real hook, and they are the reason to put Knight Owl on your Abilene card shop list separately from the others. Closed Mondays. Tuesday through Thursday it is 3PM to 10PM. Friday it runs 3PM to 1AM and Saturday 11AM to 1AM — nobody else in Abilene stays open that late — and Sunday opens at 1PM.
