Anderson Lane institution running heavy on Magic events, with a deep Pokemon singles case and an entire back room for tournaments.
Dragon's Lair Comics & Fantasy on West Anderson Lane has been an Austin gaming fixture for decades, and the footprint reflects that history — a large retail floor up front, a dedicated event hall in the back, and shelves that stretch from board games to Pokemon singles to wargaming miniatures without losing focus.
Magic: The Gathering is the heartbeat of this Austin card shop. Friday Night Magic regularly packs the back room, and the shop runs Commander nights, Pioneer leagues, and prerelease events on essentially every release weekend. Singles live behind the counter in a deep binder system; staff will pull anything from Standard staples to Legacy duals to a $4 uncommon for a new Commander deck.
Pokemon and Lorcana also see real activity — League nights for both run weekly, and the sealed walls keep current Pokemon sets in stock without the constant sellouts that plague big-box retailers. Trading cards Austin players actively use are stocked here in functional, playable quantities, which is the whole point of an LCS over an online seller.
The rest of the floor leans into the comics-and-fantasy half of the name: a wall of new release comics, RPG sourcebooks two rows deep, Warhammer 40K and Age of Sigmar minis, and an impressive board game wall organized by player count. The staff are notoriously deep on system knowledge, which is great when you need a Commander deck cracked and rebuilt for $30 of swaps.
Hours are unusually generous — open until 10 or 11 PM every night — and the location off MoPac and Anderson is easy to reach from anywhere in North or Central Austin. Bring a trade binder and stay for a draft.
