South Lamar pick for new-release comics plus a steadily growing Pokemon and MTG singles operation, with weekly events for both.
Tribe Comics and Games sits in the South Lamar shopping strip near Brodie Oaks and has carved out a niche as the South Austin go-to for both new-release comics and trading card game players. The shop reads as a comics-first space the moment you walk in — front wall full of weekly Marvel and DC releases — but the right side of the floor is dedicated to TCG, with Pokemon cards Austin collectors come in for filling a dedicated section.
Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon get the most floor attention on the TCG side. Singles run in a flip case under the counter, sealed product (current sets plus Lorcana, One Piece, and Yu-Gi-Oh) lines the back wall, and the play space hosts weekly Friday Night Magic and Pokemon League nights. The community is meaningfully smaller and chiller than the big Anderson Lane shops, which makes it a comfortable first stop for newer players.
Board games and RPGs take up the rest of the floor — a respectable selection of Catan-tier family games, heavier strategy titles, and a wall of D&D and Pathfinder books. The staff actively recommend games based on what you've already played, and they'll teach rules on the play tables if you bring a friend.
Hours stretch into the evening seven days a week, which is rare on the south side. Parking is easy in the Brodie Oaks lot, and the South Lamar location pairs well with a stop at one of the dozen nearby food trucks. If you're hunting for a friendly South Austin card shop that isn't trying to be the loudest LCS in town, Tribe earns the visit.
