Patriot Games

A Konami-sanctioned OTS in Odessa, Patriot Games runs Yu-Gi-Oh and Commander tables past 11PM alongside retro console shelves and Warhammer racks.

Tucked into the strip behind Bush's Chicken on East 8th Street, Patriot Games is veteran- and family-owned, and the name is not decoration — the shop was founded in part around supporting troops, and the Odessa military community shows up in the player base. What you notice walking in is that the retail footprint is smaller than the play footprint. This is a shop built around people sitting down.

The credential that separates it from the rest of the Permian Basin is Official Tournament Store status with Konami, which means sanctioned Yu-Gi-Oh! events rather than casual pickup games. Magic runs through a TopDeck.gg event hub for sign-ups, and Commander is far and away the format reviewers mention most. Pokemon, Warhammer 40k and general tabletop fill out the calendar. On the retail side the shop doubles as a retro game store, carrying consoles and cartridges from the Atari era through Xbox One, plus console repair and disc resurfacing.

One name comes up in review after review: Marshall, who runs the play floor and is credited repeatedly with making first-timers feel like regulars by the end of the night. A reviewer passing through the area in 2026 wrote that the few weeks they spent playing at Patriot Games were the best part of their time in Odessa — which is a fairly precise description of what a good local game store does.

Plan your visit around the weekend. Monday through Thursday the shop closes at 7PM, but Friday and Saturday it runs until 11PM, and Sunday it opens late at 2PM and closes at 8PM. Hours have shifted more than once and different listings disagree, so a quick call to 432-978-3795 before an evening trip is worth it. The event calendar and sign-ups live at patriot.game and on the shop's TopDeck.gg hub.
