North Boulder's Magic shop since 2008, with cases of singles old and new, free Commander twice a week and an owner who plays everything he sells.
Dan has run Gamers Guild on North Broadway since 2008, and his name appears in customer reviews more often than the store's does. That is the shape of the place: a small North Boulder storefront where the owner answers Magic and board game questions personally and, by his own description, only sells games he and his staff actually play.
Magic: The Gathering is the core. The cases hold singles spanning current Standard back through ancient product, with sealed packs from both eras, and the shop buys collections as well as selling them. Around that sit Pokemon, Warhammer 40K, Dungeons & Dragons books and supplies, dice, miniatures and paint, and a board game selection the store deliberately keeps unusual rather than chasing the obvious titles.
The event calendar is unusually generous for a shop this size, and most of it is free. Commander runs on Wednesday evenings and again on Saturday at no cost. Pokemon League meets Monday afternoons from 4:30 to 7:30. Thursday is board game night starting at 5PM, with anything played that evening discounted ten percent — a small, smart touch. Sealed leagues and prerelease weekends round out the schedule, and the shop runs an active Discord for anyone who wants the current details.
Hours are noon to 9PM Monday through Saturday and noon to 5PM on Sunday. There are a few free spots in front and a lot around back. One quirk worth passing along: the shop posts a polite request that players arrive not smelling of cigarettes, the gym, or Colorado's other well-known crop — which tells you something about how seriously they take the play space.
