Downtown Silver Spring newcomer on Fenton Street running Friday Night Magic and stocking indie comics beside new Magic and Warhammer product.
Most of the trading card action in Silver Spring happens north of downtown. Pure Panic Comics & Games broke that pattern by opening on Fenton Street, in the middle of the walkable downtown core, and it has been building a following fast — 4.9 stars across 37 reviews within its first year or so.
The shop is a comics-and-games hybrid rather than a pure card store, and it plays both sides seriously. New Magic: The Gathering product arrives weekly and Friday Night Magic runs on schedule; the Warhammer section is well stocked for a store this size; and the D&D shelf keeps expanding. The comics half covers mainstream monthlies but the real character is in the indie and locally designed tabletop RPG selection, which is unusual to find outside of a specialty shop.
Community is not a throwaway line here. The owners host events with panels, demo games and vendor tables for local designers — one nearby game designer wrote that the store invites creators in to talk directly with customers rather than just stocking their work. That posture explains a lot of the review scores.
The schedule is worth reading carefully because it varies by day: noon to 7PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, but a much longer 10AM to 9PM on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Those long days are when events cluster. Fenton Street is a short walk from the Silver Spring Metro station and the downtown garages, making this the rare card shop in the area you can reach without a car.
