Victory Point Games

Local game store on Union Road in Gastonia with Magic, Pokemon and Lorcana singles, a bulk rare bin, prerelease nights and a roomy event space.

Victory Point Games bills itself as a small local game store chasing a dream, and that personal scale shows. The Union Road shop splits its floor between a well-curated board game wall and a dedicated event space, where Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon and Disney Lorcana players gather most nights of the week.

Card players come for the singles. The store keeps TCG singles for Magic, Pokemon and Lorcana, plus sealed product for those games and for Cardfight!! Vanguard. A bulk rare bin is a favorite for Commander brewers who want playable rares without paying binder prices, and stock turns over often enough that regulars check back after each new set. For anyone searching for MTG in Gastonia, the store's prerelease weekends are some of the best-attended in town.

Board gamers are well served too. Shelves cover family, strategy, cooperative and party games at prices that hold up against big online retailers, and there are RPG books, Warhammer-style miniatures, paints, dice, playmats, sleeves and storage boxes. That range makes it a one-stop shop for households where one person plays Commander and another runs a D&D campaign.

Event tickets are sold through the store's website, which is the easiest way to check what is running and lock in a seat for popular nights.

The atmosphere is a big part of why players stick around. The event room gives Commander pods and Pokemon league games space to breathe, and staff are known for knowing their stock well enough to point you toward a specific card or a board game that fits your group. New players picking up a first deck or a first strategy game will find the store an easy place to ask questions without feeling rushed.

The doors are open 11AM-9PM Monday through Saturday and noon to 6PM on Sunday, so weeknight play is an option most of the week. Look for Suite 600 at 2212 Union Rd on the south side of Gastonia.
