Gastonia's big retro-gaming and TCG hub on Cox Road: walls of Pokemon, Magic and One Piece singles, classic consoles, trade-ins and busy weekend events.
Few stores in Gaston County have built a following like Gamers Alley. With more than a thousand Google reviews and a 4.7-star average, the Cox Road shop pulls customers from across the Charlotte region, and some drive in from hours away to trade in old video game collections. It is part retro arcade nostalgia, part modern card shop, and the two halves feed each other.
On the trading card side, the selection is unusually wide. Singles are stocked for Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Disney Lorcana, Digimon, the Gundam Card Game, Union Arena and Riftbound, with sealed product for most of those lines. That makes it a practical stop for trading cards in Gastonia whether you need one missing piece for a Commander deck or a booster box for a release night.
The rest of the floor is packed with Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox and Sega games, Japanese Game Boy Advance titles, toys, collectibles, graphic novels, hobby supplies for Games Workshop and D&D, and even sneakers. The density is part of the charm, though aisles can feel tight when the store is busy, so weekday daytime visits are the easiest for browsing.
Events run regularly in the play area, and the shop keeps an events page and a trade-in page on its website. Trade-ins cover both games and cards, and the shop has a reputation for treating big collection sellers fairly rather than nickel-and-diming them.
For collectors, the appeal is that a single stop covers both old and new hobbies. A parent can browse vintage Nintendo cartridges while a teenager sorts through Pokemon singles, and both can walk out with store credit from a trade-in put toward the next purchase.
Hours are generous: 10AM-9PM Monday through Thursday, 10AM-11PM on Friday and Saturday for later events, and 11AM-6PM on Sunday. You will find it in Suite 103 at 401 Cox Rd, close to the I-85 interchange, which makes it an easy detour for anyone passing between Charlotte and Kings Mountain.
