Opened in September 2023 by identical twin brothers, Gem Mint Twins is the newest serious card shop on this stretch of Carolina Beach Road, occupying Suite 2 just south of downtown Wilmington. The near-perfect Google rating is not an accident — the two owners are usually both behind the counter, which means the person answering your question is the person who bought the inventory.
The pricing structure is deliberately tiered so nobody leaves empty-handed. Dollar singles boxes give kids and set builders something to dig through, mid-range raw cards sit in binders, and the glass holds graded cards and higher-end rookies. Hobby boxes across the major sports are stocked behind the counter, and there's a real Pokemon presence alongside the sports product. Funko Pops and jerseys fill out the memorabilia side.
Buying, selling, and trading is the core of the operation rather than a side service. The twins run an active eBay presence in parallel with the storefront, which means they're tracking market comps daily and can usually give you a number on the spot for a collection.
Hours require planning: the shop is closed Mondays, runs 10am to 6pm Tuesday through Friday, and shortens to 10am–4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Weekday afternoons offer the most counter time.
