The Comic Store

A Station Square fixture since the 1990s, stocking Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon alongside one of Lancaster's deepest comic back-issue walls. Opens 9AM Wednesdays.

Ask anyone who grew up collecting in Lancaster City and The Comic Store comes up. One reviewer has been walking through the door since 1999 and now brings his own kids. The Station Square location on East McGovern Avenue has become a genuine constant in a downtown that has otherwise turned over several times.

The tagline reads "your hero for comics, games, cards, collectibles," and the card side is not an afterthought. Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! are the named lines, with Pokemon and other collectible card games stocked alongside. What people actually come for is the depth — the back-issue and oddball inventory runs far past what a typical shop carries, to the point that a 2025 Google reviewer described finding "stuff you would never find anywhere else." The Xena section, apparently, is not small.

Wednesday is the day. The store opens at 9AM every Wednesday for New Comic Day, a full hour earlier than the rest of the week, and it is the busiest and best-stocked morning on the calendar. Every other day runs 10AM to 7:30PM, with Sunday shortened to noon until 5PM — those long evening hours make it the most after-work-friendly card shop Lancaster has.

Beyond the counter, Joseph Miller's shop handles special orders and back-orders for anything not on the shelf, runs a parallel eBay storefront, and turns out for the annual Free Comic Book Day and Halloween Comic Fest. Creator signings have brought in names including Brian Keene and, on one memorable occasion, Jim Steranko.

Station Square puts you a short walk from downtown proper with dedicated parking, and the store's footprint is larger than the storefront suggests — budget more time than you think you need. Miniatures, role-playing games, board games, action figures and apparel round out the floor.
