Big Kids Gaming's 1st Avenue store behind Staples brings competitive Magic, a weekly Pokemon league, and transparent trade-ins to Yuma seven days a week.
Big Kids Gaming started in Fortuna Foothills in late 2024 and opened this second location at 1700 South 1st Avenue, Suite 314, tucked behind the Staples on 16th Street, to serve Yuma proper. The city store is on the smaller side, but the event calendar is the fullest in town, and a perfect 5.0 Google rating across its first dozen reviews says a lot about how the owners treat their players.
Magic: The Gathering runs deepest. As a Wizards Play Network store, Big Kids hosts Regional Championship Qualifiers, a Thursday-night pairing of a casual Commander raffle at 5:30PM and cEDH at 6PM, Friday Standard Showdown at 6PM, and a Sunday draft at 2PM. Pokemon has a weekly TCG league and the shop recently added its first VGC challenge. Yu-Gi-Oh, Riftbound, and the full Bandai lineup (One Piece, Gundam, Digimon, Dragon Ball Fusion World, Union Arena) all have product and play, and D&D Adventurers League meets Saturday at 3PM.
Trade-ins are a point of pride. Reviewers describe staff walking them through the buy breakdown line by line, and the shop advertises one of the best prize payouts per player in Yuma. Singles are listed through TCGplayer Pro for pickup, sealed boxes and elite trainer boxes are stocked across every major game, and Warhammer 40K and Age of Sigmar codices and minis sit alongside Dragon Shield and Katana sleeves. A Sidekick rewards program tracks purchases.
Hours are noon to 9PM Monday through Saturday and noon to 8PM Sunday, with restaurants a short walk away for between-round meals. The Discord is where event caps and last-minute changes are announced. For Pokemon cards in Yuma with a competitive scene attached, this Yuma card shop is where the brackets are.
