A South Land Park institution for over 30 years, D & P Cards stacks hobby boxes of NBA, NFL and MLB product and also keeps a strong stock of sealed Pokemon.
D & P Cards has been dealing sports cards for more than three decades, which makes it one of the longest-running hobby shops in the city. It sits on South Land Park Drive in a quiet neighborhood strip, and it is easy to drive past. Inside, the store is small and tidy, and most of the room goes to product.
Sealed wax is the headline. Shelves hold a wide run of basketball, football and baseball hobby boxes. Collectors who prefer to rip their own product rather than buy singles will find more choice here than at most local stores. Singles are priced close to recent market comps, so browsing the cases rarely brings surprises. The shop has also built up its Pokemon stock in recent years, and it is a good stop for Pokemon sealed product such as blisters and booster boxes.
Much of D & P's business also runs online. The shop hosts group breaks across basketball, baseball, football and mixed sports, streams live breaks daily, and offers an MVP subscription box with monthly or one-time options. It has also hosted in-store autograph signings, including an appearance by Vince Carter, so it's worth following its social channels for announcements.
With three decades in the same part of town, the shop has a loyal base of regulars, and conversations at the counter often turn to which new releases are worth opening. New collectors can ask which product suits their budget, whether that's a single hobby box or a few packs to try.
For anyone comparing trading cards in Sacramento, D & P is the place to go if you want sports wax. It's less suited to someone hunting deep TCG singles. Buy offers are based on graded and market value, so bring your slabs with the grading company clearly shown. Hours are 11AM to 7PM Monday through Friday and 11AM to 5PM on weekends. Weekday afternoons are the quietest time to look through the boxes.
